Future Leaders Young Advocate positions

Future Leaders Young Advocate positions

Future Leaders has started! At Changemakers, we believe the most effective way for an organisation to listen to and involve young people is to employ a Young Advocate (you!) for 6 months and support them to advocate Youth Participation within their organisation. This means that you will decide with the organisation what your work will look like and then you complete a project to help the organisation improve its practice and policy regarding young people.

How does it work?

The project will last for six months and the standard model is that you will be paid for ten days work over this time. Your payment will be £50 a day. You will be self employed but Changemakers will explain exactly what this means and support you with this. You might get the opportunity to do more than ten days work with your Host Organisation but you can talk to them about this once you have been appointed.

You will receive training from Changemakers on what you can expect and what you will need to do as a Young Advocate; the training will mean you meet the other Young Advocates around the country too. You will also meet your Changemakers Champion who works for your Host Organisation and together with the support of your dedicated Changemakers Facilitator you will all work out what needs and can be done over the six months.

If you are aged 16-25 and interested in becoming a Young Advocate, have a look through these opportunities and if you think you would enjoy working with any of the organisations, then get in touch directly with them. Please note you need to check the age restrictions with the organisation directly and that all correspondence in relation to these positions is through them.

Islington Council is working in partnership with Changemakers

We are recruiting young people between 18-25 years old looking for a challenge.
Islington Council is already working together with a range of young people to help shape services for children and young people in Islington. They wish to strengthen this by recruiting a young advocate through the Future Leaders Programme for a six month period starting in September 2010. Islington Council would like a young person to contribute to at least two key developments for the team during this time. The work is likely to involve research tasks, data collection through interviewing and focus groups, developing web based content and helping to review our impact on the outcomes of young people within Islington borough.

The closing date is 12pm on Wednesday 25th August 2010.
