Latest CEO Blog: Bumped by Nick Griffin
I had a meeting with Tim Loughton, the new Minister for Children and Young People. There were around 25 people in the room - mostly familiar voluntary sector CEOs but also a few wild card new faces. There were no major policy announcements but plenty of positive discussion about the future. Tim said the future would clearly be ‘bloody' but promised to fight the sector's corner with the Treasury, and I think he will. There was some discussion about the voluntary sector getting more involved in delivering local youth services. Tim said he would look to see different arrangements emerge ‘organically' and wouldn't legislate to make this happen.

In the afternoon I attended the launch of the National Citizen Service programme at 10 Downing Street. Around 100 people were there to see David Cameron launch the programme including around 30-40 from the youth sector. There will be a very quick procurement process in August/September through which providers will be appointed to deliver 10,000 places on the NCS programme next summer. It was particularly good to catch up with Paul Oginsky who I worked with last year. Some of you will know I am on a diet, which meant I studiously avoided the delicious canapés on offer - no mean feat, I think you will agree. I congratulated myself all the way home.

I then narrowly avoiding being interviewed by Sky News - I got bumped by Nick Griffin and the Garden Party story; what a way to end the day.
